Duo Fresco Features Classical Guitarist,
Christopher Kenniff and New Jersey Symphony
Violist, Brett Deubner  in Access to Art’s Sam
Maitin Chamber Music Festival Oct. l5th

Cape May Court House.  Access to Art, Inc. will present the first concert of their Fall classical chamber music series, newly named “The Sam Maitin Chamber Music Festival,” in honor of Philadelphia artist, Sam Maitin, on Oct. l5th, Saturday evening, at 8 p.m. at Our Lady of the Angel’s R.C. Church, 35 Mechanic St., Cape May Court House. It will feature Christopher Kenniff, Classical Guitar, and Brett Deubner, Violist who call their musical collaboration “Duo Fresco.”

“Sam Maitin began our classical chamber music series, brought me artist, Aurelia Mika Chang, and her talented friends to Cape May, and designed our art work for our music festival flyers,” said Barbara Beitel, Access to Art, Inc. director.  “He died last December 23rd, and we would like to acknowledge him and his contributions to us by naming the festival after him.”  she said.

Duo Fresco, including violist Brett Deubner and guitarist, Christopher Kenniff gave their first series of performances together in the 2003-2004 concert season.  Of their performance on the Access to Art Chamber Music Series (Cape May, N.J.), Classical New Jersey noted that the duo’s “technical and ensemble ability is impeccable” and that they “produced a concert that was one highlight after another.”

The Star Ledger (Newark, N.J.) has described Mr. Kenniff as having “a lush, liquid tone, remarkable clean fingering and a nicely varied touch,” while observing that “There is a burning intensity to Deubner’s playing, and a refreshing variation in the color of his viola tone.”

Classical New Jersey has noted Mr. Kenniff’s playing for its “elegance, accuracy and impeccable technique” while describing Deubner’s playing as “extremely sensitive and expressive.”

ACCESS TO ART, INC’S SAM MAITIN
CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES OPENS

ON SATURDAY OCT. 15TH AT OUR LADY OF THE ANGEL’S R.C. CHURCH IN CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE AT 8 P.M.

Recent highlights from Duo’s Fresco’s schedule include appearances at the Juneau Jazz & Classics Festival, (Juneau, Alaska), Music at St. Andrews (Middletown, Delaware) and the historic Trinity Concerts Series (NYC, New York.)  The 2005-06 season will include many firsts for Duo Fresco including the launch of their own chamber music series “Music at the Corner” in Liberty Corner, New Jersey in which the duo will be joined by guest artists including virtuoso cellist Jeffrey Solow.  Duo Fresco will also be performing the premiere of works composed for them by Frank Ezra Levy and Serio Parrotti.  They will also be releasing their debut CD “Transfiguration” featuring works composed for or arranged by Duo Fresco.

The perfect blend of sound and style, accessibility and innovation define this exciting group’s mission of music making.  Together, Deubner & Kenniff seek to further the available repertoire for their duo by working with contemporary composers and by creating their own transcriptions of existing repertoire.  In the past year, Duo Fresco has premiered new works for viola & guitar by composers Victor Kioulaphades, Matthew Halper, Jose Lezcano and John Sichel and has arranged works by Henry Purcell, Marin Marias, JS Bach, Franz Schubert, Ralph Vaughn Williams and Manuel DeFalla. New arrangements by Bela Bartok, Luigi Boccherini and JS Bach are currently “under construction.”

Duo Fresco is currently an ensemble in residence at Kean University, Union, New Jersey where Brett Deubner and Christopher Kenniff are both members of the Affiliate Artist Faculty.

The concert series is currently sponsored by Chris Clemans, Realtors, Sturdy Savings Bank, Douglass Fudge, and the Delaware River & Bay Authority.  Additional sponsors are being sought to underwrite the event.

Tickets for the event are $l5. adults; $12. seniors and students.  Call Access to Art, Inc. at (609) 465-3963 for reservations.  Send checks to Access to Art, Inc., 4l7 E. Pacific Ave., Cape May Court House, N.J. 08210.

Friday, April 29th at 6 p.m.

Take one gracious l840’s historic home with long windows with shutters, wide wrap porches with comfortable rockers, great antique appointments and romantic table settings, one auctioneer, one catering business, one non-for profit bent on presenting dance to the local area, one tent on premises, lots of auction items, delicious hors d’oeuvres, wine and serve.

What do you have?
Lots of sociability, delicious food, and great bargains at Access to Art’s 9th annual Dance Auction scheduled for Friday evening April 29th at 6 p.m. at the Abbie Holmes Estate, l943 Route 9 North, Clermont, right above Cape May Wicker on the other side of the street.

Admission is $20. and covers the cost of the wine and hors d’ oeuvres. The event benefits the upcoming dance presentation of Battleworks scheduled for May 7th at the Middle Township

Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale there now or you may call Access to Art, Inc. at (609) 465-3963 to reserve them. (The date of the auction has been changed from its original date April 23rd, due to Passover which begins on the evening of the 23rd at sundown.)

The event promises a delightful evening, full of bargains, weekend pamper packages complete with gorgeous robe, coffee mugs, and a masseuse, art, antiques, sundries, glass, wall ornaments, golf packages, dinners for two, sculpture, lamps, towels, theatre packages, bath baskets with fine soaps and accoutrements, bird feeders, boat rides, etc. “We are excited about the location, which is very charming, and the big tent and auctioneer and all the wonderful auction items which everyone has been gathering.” said Joyce Simon, co-chairman of the evening along with Stephanie Cash.
“We saw this place and we fell in love with it. It’s convenient that they have a catering business, and that it’s next to the shops and the garden center, so they can help promote it. Each year we do this auction so that we can defray the cost of the current dance company. This year we are presenting Battleworks, a New York company, whose founder, Robert Battle danced for Parsons Company for seven years, choreographing for them while he danced. His works have been seen on three continents.” said Simon.

He’s also choreographed for Alvin Ailey twice, and for Hubbard 2 Ballet, Dallas Black Dance, and he’s taught at Jacob’s Pillow and at Saratoga Springs. He’s the youngest choreographer to be invited into the American Dance Legacy series. He does the ivy league circuit, and he just finished choreographing a piece for Juilliard, where he studied as a scholarship student, for their 50th anniversary.’’ Simon said.

The company was down here in April, bringing modern dance to area schools both in Avalon (for Middle, Cape May, Somers Point and Wildwood schools) and Wildwood for Wildwood Middle and High School and Wildwood Crest. They also gave three master classes for area students in Atlantic County. Access feted them at a gourmet dinner at the Union Park Dining Room in Cape May.

To attend the auction at the Historic Abbie Holmes Estate, 1943 Rte. 9 North, Clermont,
send your check to Access to Art, Inc., 4l7 E. Pacific Ave., Cape May Court House, N.J. 08210. Admission is $20. per person. You may call Joyce Simon to donate auction items or to reserve a place at (609) 465-7186.
